Pepper slowly walked into the Spirit Ridge, not sure if she would live or die, not sure if she wanted to live. She was half-starved, beaten up, and was emotionally damaged from careless humans. Scars and new scrapes alike were scattered all over her weak body, and the 'Double S' brand on her hock was badly infected.
She sighed and looked around for someone. Anyone. She hadn't seen another horse since she was taken to those dreadful stables. She heard a faint whinny and she whipped her head around, causing her to yelp in pain. She listened and then whinnied back. Had she finally found someone?

Zee cautiously walked forward, unsure of who or what he had found. He walked faster once he saw the silhouette of a horse. Zee himself was a bit skinny and scraped up himself, but not nearly as bad. His heart still ached from being rejected by Holly. He missed her so badly. But he guessed he deserved it for lying and being mean to her family. He looked at Pepper. Her mane and tail were cut short and clean-looking like the mares at his old stable, but the beauty ended there. The rest of her was a horrible mess. She looked dull and depressed. Zee walked all the way towards her tried a smile. They were a a pretty good match, both tore up and emotionaly hurt.

"Hey," Zee said lightly, not wanting to spook her. "Hay!? Where? What kind?" Pepper said and looked around. She hoped it was elf alpha (sp??)! Zee giggled but quickly felt bad for causing false excitement. "No, 'hey', like 'hi'," he explained, then ducked his head down. Pepper's eyes went dull again. "Oh." Zee's stomach dropped and wanted to go up and cuddled her, but she looked so fragile he'd afraid she'd tip right over. "Sorry," he apologized, "So who are you?" "Pepper."

"I'm Zee," he said, "I broke free from a ranch, I'm just an old gelding," he admitted. He was starting fresh so that meant telling the truth from now on. No matter how embarrassing or how much of a turn-off it was. Pepper looked at him with kind eyes. "I knew lots of gelding back at the ranch I lived on for a while." "Really?" "Yes, really," she replied. She smiled for the first time in ages. It felt odd, but she knew it looked ok, because Zee smiled back. "Where you heading then, Zee?" "No where at all, really." "Me neither. But I've kinda been looking for this place I remember from when I was a kid... Sunherd or something like that." Zee shifted his weight from foot to foot and looked around.

Zee looked at Pepper and took a deep breathe. "Moonherd, you mean?" Pepper's face lit up. "Yeah! Yeah! That's it! Do you know where it is? Can you take me there? What do you know about it?" "I know I'm not welcome there," he said quietly. She didn't bother asking why. "Well, maybe if they saw how kind you were to take me back, they'd forgive you for whatever you did," she said thoughtfully. Pepper laid down while Zee thought about what she had said. "Sure, I guess that's a good idea," he finally said. Pepper smiled ven bigger than before and her face lit up. She hopped up despite her aching limbs. "Let's go then! Lead the way!" Zee smiled and walked off.
