Bell looked around the dying herd. Long shivers passed through her, and she looked up, whinnying for Panic. She didn't hear a reply. Dread settled in her heart, as she wondered what valley he could have slipped into now. She lipped listlessly at the grass, but no longer felt hungry. She whinnied again, calling out so someone else, anyone else. Except Thunder. She still hadn't forgiven him.

Thunder snorted, pacing up and down the hill. He snorted when he heard Bell calling for everyone apart from him. He trotted away from the hill, towards Bell's whinny. He needed to talk to her, to apologize. Thunder kept walking towards her, head low.

Slow, lazy strides carried River around until she found herself wondering why she was even anywhere near here. Obviously, things were not going to last. She could feel the thick air of death all around; it depressed her. She didn't know what to do, didn't know where to go. This was her only home, yet it wasn't anything near homey any longer. She would have to go somewhere else. Yes, she realized this. But where to? She was about to stop, break down, and cry like the whimp she was, but a familiar whinny distracted her. She trotted forward, towards the noise.
Soon Bell was in sight, and a bit more energy entered her. But the mare sort of looked like River, she soon realized. Well, the same future was in store for her, too. "Hello, Belladonna!" she called out, and could only wish she could sound happier. Noticing someone else coming closer, she shifted her gaze, saw Thunder, and nodded to him.

Bell looked at the two horses, her eyes glazing over and ignoring Thunder. They came to a clear rest on River, and she nickered to the mare, trotting towards her with fluent strides. She hadn't seen the mare for a long time, and it was nice to see an old, familiar face. She saw too, the haggard, sunken features, the prominent bones and dejected expression. Sadness flickered across her face, but she could do that later, when alone once more.
